Issues Related to Static Electricity in Hydraulic Systems

ESD, electrostatic discharge, can cause significant issues in a hydraulic system.

Problems with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

Hydraulic systems can experience unusual faults and contamination, including burnt filter elements, accelerated oil degradation, and electrical discharges.

Causes of ESD

Friction between hydraulic fluid and filter media causes static buildup. Environmental regulations have led to the use of low-conductivity oils, which increase the risk of ESD.

Damage Caused by ESD in Hydraulic Systems

  • Damaged filter elements: Static buildup can burn and degrade filter elements

  • Increased contamination: Damaged filter elements cannot effectively filter contaminants

  • Reduced oil and component life: Increased contamination and impaired filtration shorten oil and component lifespan

  • Fire hazard: High ESD can cause deflagration or gas combustion within the system

Solutions to Electrostatic Discharge from Schroeder Industries

  • Anti-Stat Premium and Anti-Stat Media: Specially engineered materials that eliminate static buildup and protect the system.
  •  Two protection levels: Anti-Stat Premium for extreme ESD cases and Anti-Stat Media for low to moderate ESD.

Anti-Stat Premium

Anti-Stat Premium: For demanding and extreme ESD conditions.

  • Specially designed material that dissipates electrical charges before they can damage your system

  • Eliminates all static buildup at the source

  • Effective even in the most critical ESD cases, handling conductivity lower than 100 pS/m

Anti-Stat Media

Anti-Stat Media: Reliable, high-performance solution for low to moderate ESD.

  • Specially designed material that dissipates electrical charges before they can damage your system

  • Cost-effective option for moderate levels of ESD

  • Effective for conductivity higher than 100 pS/m
