Sun Hydraulics model codes for valves, coils and manifolds

Sun Hydraulics structures its product names (model codes) in a fixed format, making it easy to quickly understand key characteristics of the product. The model code is based on several parameters that describe the valve’s function, size, control type, pressure range, material, and more. By interpreting the product name, you can understand quite a lot about the product, such as pressure setting, material, etc.

Model Codes Sun Hydraulics Valves

Sun Hydraulics cartridge valves have a model code based on a seven-character code. The first four letters, for example RPGC, indicate the valve model. In this case, a pilot-operated pressure relief valve with a capacity of 200 l/min. The third letter indicates the valve size.

RPCC 45 l/min
RPEC 95 l/min
RPGC 200 l/min
RPIC 380 l/min
RPKC 760 l/min

Each model is then followed by three suffix letters. For example, RPGC-LAN. The first letter depends on the type of control the valve has. Not all valves have all configurations – this depends on the valve function.

RPGC-L** Standard screw
RPGC-C** Factory-set sealed
RPGC-K** Knob
RPGC-O** Panel mount
RPGC-W** External hex
RPGC-Y** Wing knob
X** Non-adjustable
M** Manual override
F** External hex
H** Calibrated hand knob

The second letter indicates the pressure setting range. Examples below – many more setting ranges are available, and it can also indicate the spring strength of the valve.

RPGC-*A* 7–210 bar
RPGC-*W* 10.5–315 bar
RPGC-*B* 3.5–105 bar

The third letter indicates the O-ring material. Standard is RPGC-**N Buna, but there is also RPGC-**E EPDM and RPGC-**V Viton.

Suffixes at the end of the code have the following meanings:

/AP Stainless steel
/LH Zinc Nickel coating

Model Code Sun Hydraulics Standard Manifold Bodies

Sun Hydraulics standard manifold bodies have a model code based on three letters. These valve bodies are also called 3lt (short for “3 letter”).

Suffixes at the end of the code have the following meanings:

/M Aluminum
/S Steel
/T Steel with metric threads
/V Viton O-rings

Model Code and Surface Treatment for Sun Hydraulics Standard Manifold Bodies

If the manifold bodies are made of steel, there are different surface treatments available:

/S In the standard version, the manifold only have dewatering oil, i.e. very limited protection during transport and storage.
/S3 which is trivalent clear zinc with top sealer, 96 hour salt spray test.
/S1 which is Clear Zinc Nickel with Top Sealer, 1 000 hour  salt spray test.

Model Codes for Sun Hydraulics Solenoid Coils

Solenoid coil model codes consist of three digits, followed by three more digits, and possibly a letter at the end, for example 740-224D.

The first three digits represent the solenoid coil series:

740-series is the newest and fits SUN’s FLeX series, inner diameter is 16 mm. This series also has the option of high-power or low-power to match functionality to need.
770-series is well established and is a round solenoid coil, inner diameter 19 mm.
760-series is an older series and has a square solenoid coil, inner diameter 14.2 mm.

The first digit after the hyphen indicates the connector type; for example 740-224D, here ISO/DIN 43650.
2 = ISO/DIN 43650
7 = Deutsch DT04-2P
6 = AMP Junior

The last two digits indicate the voltage, for example 710-224D, here 24VDC.

The D suffix indicates a flyback diode. In older models, the diode is included, but for the FLeX series, this must be added.

Sun Hydraulics Date Codes

All Sun Hydraulics valves and manifolds come with a date code. The date code is made up of one number, two letters, and then one number. For example, 8AA6 – the first and last digit represent the year, and the letters in the middle represent the month and day.

A = January
B = February
C = March
D = April
E = May
F = June
G = July
H = August
I = September
J = October
K = November
L = December

8AA6 then means year -86, A = January and A = 1st.
8BB6 means year -86, B = February and B = 2nd.
