A step drill is used to create the basic shape of the cavity in multiple stages with high precision. This is followed by a reamer, which fine-tunes and smooths the hole to ensure an exact diameter and surface finish according to specification. Finally, a thread tap is used to cut the threads where the valve’s retaining thread will be seated.
